How the workflows differ
Why labs look for an ImageJ alternative
ImageJ and Fiji are free and endlessly capable, and for a lot of labs that's the whole appeal. The friction shows up when the analysis is routine. Counting objects means setting thresholds or wiring up a plugin, batch runs mean writing a macro, and every machine needs its plugins configured the same way. For a biologist who just wants to count cells and measure intensity, that's a scripting task standing in front of a simple question.
Point and click instead of scripting

ImageJ measures the image in front of it and exports a CSV, leaving the sample it came from and the figure it ends up in to other tools.
